At MWC 2019, a lot of new phones come out! Xiaomi beat Samsung to the punch by announcing the Mi 9 in China! Yesterday was their global #MakeItHappen event in Barcelona, Spain and boy did they bring the goods! Not only did they announce the pricing and availability for the Mi 9, but they also announced the Mi MIX 3 5G! (Yes, it’s a 5G smartphone. More on that below.)
Xiaomi’s First 5G Smartphone: Mi MIX 3 5G!
Here I thought Xiaomi would also ride the foldable phone trend after Samsung and Huawei did alongside 5G. Thank goodness they didn’t do that! Instead, Xiaomi added 5G connectivity to one of their more forward-thinking smartphones: the Mi MIX 3. Reviews for this phone praised its unique manual slider design and the dual rear cameras!
With the Mi MIX 3 5G, they maintain the same design, display, and cameras from the regular Mi MIX 3. Its only differences? The Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G Modem and the Snapdragon 855 processor (which supports said 5G modem). To show how ready the Mi MIX 3 5G is for primetime, they showed a live demo of a 5G video call over Orange Spain’s 5G network.
It comes in two colors: Onyx Black and Sapphire Blue. Price starts at €599 and will be available in May. I honestly don’t think this will arrive in the Philippines.
Mi 9 European Pricing Revealed!
After launching in Mainland China on February 20, the Xiaomi Mi 9 made its global launch with official European pricing! (To know what the Mi 9 has, check out my preview.) This phone will be available starting February 28 at just €449 for 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model. The Mi 9 is also has a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model for just €499. It comes in three colors: Piano Black, Ocean Blue, and Lavender Violet. No pricing and availability for the Philippines just yet. We’ll keep you updated when anything comes up.
