OPPO Reno 2 Series Announced in India!

Jullian Robin Sibi 0

I know, I know. OPPO left its entry-level roots behind with the back-to-back launches of the Find X and R17 Pro last year. It was also willing to ditch both these phones for the OPPO Reno line earlier this year. I didn’t really expect OPPO to do a follow-up to their flagship phone, but here we are! On August 28, 2019, the Chinese smartphone maker announced the OPPO Reno 2 Series in New Delhi, India!

OPPO made a big splash by launching the Reno 2 Series first in India.

What’s New with the OPPO Reno 2 Series?

The main difference with these phones over their predecessor is the FOUR REAR CAMERAS!

Yup, you read that right! When I first saw the news, I only expected one of the models to get the feature. Lo and behold, all models get the quad rear camera setup! You even get new awesome features to go along with this new camera! These include:

  • Ultra Dark Mode for even better low light photos
  • Ultra Steady Video for better video stabilization
  • 20X Zoom (up from 10x on the Reno)

Gimme The Phones!

It gets weird when I get into each phone launched since the specs of each phone are really different. Here are the Reno 2 Series phones:

Reno 2

The Reno 2 is clearly THE FLAGSHIP smartphone of the lineup. It carries over the rising shark fin front camera of its predecessor. The OPPO Reno 2 carries all the camera bells and whistles including the 20X Zoom!

Here are its specs:

  • 6.5-inch 2400×1080 display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB storage
  • Quad rear camera: 48MP SONY IMX 586 F1.7 (main) + 8MP F2.4 (ultra-wide) + 13MP F2.4 (telephoto with 5x Hybrid Zoom and 20x Digital Zoom) + 2MP F2.4 (Mono Lens for Portrait mode), OIS + EIS
  • 16MP F2.0 shark-fin rising front camera
  • 4000mAh battery, VOOC Flash Charge 3.0
  • Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6.1
  • Comes in Luminous Black (shown on top), Ocean Blue, and Sunset Pink

Reno 2Z and Reno 2F

OPPO also announced two smartphones alongside the flagship Reno 2: the OPPO Reno 2Z and Reno 2F. Both smartphones carry the rising pop-up camera from the F11 Pro. They also carry four rear cameras, but have differences. The 2Z carries the same 48MP SONY IMX 586 main sensor as the Reno 2 while the 2F settles for a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor.

Here are the specs for both the 2Z and 2F:

Reno 2Z Specs

  • 6.5-inch 2400×1080 display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB storage

  • 16MP F2.0 rising front camera
  • 4000mAh battery, VOOC Flash Charge 3.0

OPPO Reno 2 Series Pricing and Availability in India

If you notice all three phones, they don’t have much difference besides the cameras! The other difference between the three are the pricing and availability in India. Here they are:

  • OPPO Reno 2 – Rs. 36,990, Available on September 20
  • OPPO Reno 2Z – Rs. 29,990, Available on September 6
  • OPPO Reno 2F – Available on November, no pricing announced

How About The Philippines?

OPPO Reno 2 - Luminous Black

It isn’t clear whether OPPO Philippines would release all three of these phones. I feel that it is more likely that only the flagship Reno 2 will arrive in Philippine shores. My guess is that it’ll arrive around late September or early October. We’ll see.

What do YOU think of the OPPO Reno 2 series of smartphones? Is it too soon for OPPO to put this out after their successful Reno smartphones? Sound off in the comments!
