Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra: Samsung Returns!

Samsung just announced the successors to its Galaxy S10 series: the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra!

I felt that Samsung had a muted 2019 (compared to other phone makers). That’s probably because of the Galaxy S10 series coming out early in the year. I think it’s because of the muted response of the Note 10 lineup. I love that Samsung made A LOT of improvements in the S20 lineup that are worth noting here. Here we go!

Punching That Hole in the Middle…

Galaxy S20 - Screen

We still get a hole-punch Dynamic AMOLED display on all the S20 phones. The difference is that the hole-punch is now in the middle! We first saw this on the Note 10 lineup last year and I’m glad we get that here. Tech people are saying that Samsung went back to having flat displays. It’s surprising because Samsung started the “curved display” trend a few years back.

The Galaxy S20 Lineup is ALL ABOUT CAMERAS!

For all the things Samsung put in the S20 lineup, the most important thing in them is the camera. Scratch that, CAMERAS. There is a lot of focus (get it?) on the cameras of the S20 phones. This is made obvious with the launch of the Galaxy S20 Ultra that has these cameras going for it: a 108MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 48MP telephoto sensor with a 10X optical zoom, 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and time-of-flight (ToF) OIS DepthVision sensor. That is NUTS for a smartphone but we’ll see how good it is when I head to Galaxy Harajuku to try it out.

The S20 and S20+ are no slouches though (both having a 64MP telephoto sensor). They all represent big upgrades compared to last year’s S10 lineup.
