SMARTPHONE ALERT August 2017!

Jullian Robin Sibi 0

We are now in August and the phone news DOES NOT STOP! Despite how near we are from the iPhone 8 and Galaxy Note 8, other phone makers are ready! They feel that putting their phone out before those two could help a lot. With that in mind, here are the phones that came out in July and are coming out this month! THIS IS SMARTPHONE ALERT August 2017 Edition!

ASUS ZenFone 4

In case you ask, yes there is a ZenFone 4 from ASUS. Unfortunately, it was a 4-inch smartphone that ran Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Good thing the latest flagship from ASUS is anything but.

As you can see up there, the ZenFone 4 WILL have a dual camera system. As to the specs of the smartphone, we don’t know much yet. Good thing we won’t have to wait much longer! ASUS will have the worldwide launch on August 17 and the Philippine launch on August 19!

Moto Z2 Play

After returning to the Philippine market last year with the Moto Z and Moto Z Play, Moto is back with the Moto Z2 Play! It’s a thinner phone with a smaller battery (3000 mAh compared to the Z Play’s 3510 mAh battery). Despite that, it still carries the quality that Motorola stands for even if it’s under Lenovo. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Z2 Play uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 for better performance than its predecessor.

Like its predecessor, it supports Moto Mods which help enhance the capabilities of the Z2 Play. You can find some examples in the post I made about Motorola’s return to the Philippines.

HTC U11

The last time I heard about HTC was the time when it became the manufacturer for Google’s Pixel phones. I’m glad that they’re back in the Philippines with a new flagship! (NO I AM NOT GOING TO CONSIDER the HTC U ULTRA a flagship AT ALL.)

At first glance, the HTC U11 looks like a normal flagship from HTC. It has the usual bells and whistles: Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage. Two thing help it stand out from the pack though. First is that shiny blue color. It seriously mesmerizes me. WOW.

The standout (or rather subtle) feature is the squeeze functionality. Depending on how tight you squeeze the phone, it will activate the custom function that you set! I find it intriguing yet I’m afraid that I’ll just forget about it sooner or later. Oh well, at least HTC tried harder this time. You can find more details about this good-looking squeeze-able phone over at Pinoy Metro Geek!

LG V30

Despite how good the LG G6 is, poor marketing and the Galaxy S8 hindered its growth. The Galaxy S8 feels like a refined G6. With that in mind, LG decided to ride the flow of IFA 2017 on August 31st in Berlin to release the V30. The phone would carry high-end specs and a HUGE focus on the camera system. If the G6 is an indication, then I’m sure the V30 would be no different. I just hope the next phone can’t upstage this one.

Galaxy Note 8

A week before IFA 2017, Samsung will have its second Unpacked event for 2017. Thanks to their confidence in the Galaxy S8, they are ready to tackle the Note brand once more.

The Note 8 will basically have a bigger screen, the same specs as the S8, and the S Pen. (Without the S Pen, this would basically be a Galaxy S8+). I just hope that Samsung has more than just that though. I don’t think it would be enough to convince me to recommend this phone.

Xiaomi MI 6

Xiaomi feels like a smaller deal than it should be these days. I really do not feel the impact of the MI 5 or the MI 5X. The worst part is that I know how great Xiaomi phones actually are. I think this is because they don’t have a large enough presence in the Philippines unlike OPPO and Vivo.

Meet the Xiaomi MI 6.

At first glance of the front, it looks like an iPhone. At this point, most phones already look like an iPhone. Like its predecessors, it offers high-end specs for a *hopefully* midrange price. The focus is on its dual camera setup. The MI 6 has a dual 12MP rear camera system like the one used on the iPhone (one is a wide-angle, the other a telephoto). It also has 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization for lesser shake and motion in your videos.

It will come in three colors including that cool new blue one. I hope this phone gets to the Philippines sooner rather than later.

OPPO F3 Red

This phone is the oldest one of the bunch. It also happens to be one of the more popular phones to come out of OPPO here in the Philippines. After releasing a Black version, OPPO decided to appease the red lovers out there with the OPPO F3 Red. Its release date is on August 12. Besides the color, this phone is identical to the OPPO F3 released earlier this year.

That is all for my SMARTPHONE ALERT August 2017 Edition! I may have missed some phones like the Essential Phone (thanks to its magical delays). Do you have a phone that you are most excited about? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
