PLDT and Roku Team Up!

Jullian Robin Sibi 0

The age of the internet continues to grow. Streaming music and video is already the norm. Spotify was the one that redefined the way we listen to music. Netflix made watching TV shows and movies easier. PLDT has made their internet backbone better and provided more digital services to suit our needs.

Now, the leading Philippine telco and digital services provider teams up with Roku, the world’s leading video streaming provider. They aim to bring the best entertainment to Filipinos right from their TV screens. Roku currently provides access to over 3,500 viewing apps including Netflix, YouTube and HBO Now!

When I first read this on Facebook, I was really surprised! PLDT already had iflix, which is the best streaming video service I’ve tried so far, and Fox International Channels. Since PLDT now has a partnership with Roku, a lot of possibilities have opened up!

Roku is really popular worldwide. It has nine million active accounts in 10 countries, including the US, UK, and Australia. They boast of having more than twice the usage of Google’s Chromecast. (according to independent surveys and Roku’s own tracker conducted in November 2015)

Since video streaming is highly dependent on the internet, PLDT HOME has been increasing their speeds up to 1Gbps. This should be great news to Filipinos who really want the best video streaming experience!

What does this mean for me?

Well, it means that we have more options for watching movies and TV shows soon! Roku really offers a lot on its table. Having the HBO Now app is a dead giveaway. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, this is a big deal! You no longer need a cable TV subscription to watch the Emmy award-winning show. The only thing you need is a strong internet connection at home and a powerful streaming platform. Both PLDT and Roku aim to give their all to provide that to you!
