iPhone Lineup Guide (As of October 2020)

Jullian Robin Sibi 14

2020 has been really tough on everything. Earlier this year, we were feeling the immediate effects of the current situation. After Apple launched the new iPhone SE last April, we now have the iPhone 12 lineup in October! The said lineup builds on the foundation set by the iPhone 11 series last year. With that in mind, I’m here to show you the current iPhone lineup!

DISCLAIMER: This guide only includes iPhones that are available in Apple’s Online Store. Yes, you may have seen promos for older iPhones from telcos and Apple resellers in the Philippines. Those are not included but by all means, include them in your phone-buying decision.

2020 iPhone Lineup

 iPhone SE | iPhone XR | iPhone 11 | iPhone 12 mini/iPhone 12 | iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max

iPhone SE

New iPhone SE

Price (US / PH):
$399 / P26,490 (64GB), $449 / P30,490 (128GB), $549 / P36,490 (256GB)
Available Colors: Black, White, (PRODUCT)RED

Notable Specs: 4.7-inch display, A13 Bionic chip, 3GB RAM, Home button with Touch ID, Haptic Touch, glass design, wireless charging

On April 15, Apple announced the new iPhone SE that carries an iPhone 8 body and an A13 Bionic chip. This new iPhone SE isn’t as small as the old one though.

New iPhone SE Color Options

The new SE carries most of what came with the iPhone 8: a 4.7-inch display, glass back, IP67 water resistance, Qi wireless charging, and USB-C fast charging. (Sadly, you can only get fast charging if you buy the USB-C to Lightning cable and the 18W USB-C Power Adapter.) Unlike the iPhone 8, this one removes 3D Touch for Haptic Touch.

Who are these for? This phone is A GREAT DEAL for those looking for a new iPhone. Despite still carrying the old design, most of us would rather use Touch ID right now given our current situation. If you’re STILL carrying an iPhone 6 or 6s, this is a definite upgrade for you!

iPhone XR

Price: $499 / P31,990 (64GB), $549 / P34,990 (128GB)
Available Colors: (PRODUCT)RED, Yellow, White, Coral, Black, Blue

Notable Specs: A12 Bionic chip, 3GB RAM, 6.1″ Liquid Retina LCD display, 7MP TrueDepth front camera system, Face ID, 12MP rear camera with OIS, glass design, wireless charging

The iPhone XR is now entering its third year in the lineup. In 2020 though, I think the value is not as big as it once was last year. The XR is fast enough for the most part thanks to its A12 Bionic chip. The single 12MP camera may not age too well compared to even the current iPhone SE.

iPhone Lineup 2019 - iPhone XR

Who is this for? This phone was already tough to recommend thanks to the new iPhone SE. Now? We have a cheaper iPhone 11 for just $100 more and it has a better 12MP TrueDepth camera and an additional Ultrawide camera. If you only have $500 to spare and you like the modern design, then this is the phone for you.

iPhone 11

iPhone Lineup 2019 - iPhone 11

Price: $599 / P37,990 (64GB), $649 / P40,990 (128GB), $749 / P46,990 (256GB)
Available Colors: (PRODUCT)RED, Yellow, White, Green, Black, Purple

Notable Specs: A13 Bionic chip, 4GB RAM, 6.1″ Liquid Retina LCD display, 12MP TrueDepth front camera system, Better Face ID with multiple angles, Dual rear cameras: 12MP wide with f/1.8 aperture and 12MP ultra-wide with f/2.4 aperture, glass design, wireless charging

The iPhone 11 was the iPhone to get for most people last year. This would probably still be the iPhone I would recommend for most people despite the iPhone 12. Unless you want 5G or specific features of the newer models, you wouldn’t regret getting the iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 Color Lineup

Who is this for? Even as the iPhone 12 lineup launched, I still think getting this phone is good unless you’re keeping your phone for more than 2 years. Its cameras are still one of the best and the A13 Bionic chip is still zippy enough for most tasks.

iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 mini

Price:
iPhone 12 mini – $729 / P43,990 (64GB), $779 / P46,990 (128GB), $879 / P52,990 (256GB)
iPhone 12 – $829 / P49,990 (64GB), $879 / P52,990 (128GB), $979 / P58,990 (256GB)
Available Colors: Black, White, (PRODUCT)RED, Green, Blue

Notable Specs: A14 Bionic chip, 4GB RAM, 5.4-inch (iPhone 12 mini) / 6.1-inch (12) Super Retina XDR Display, 12MP TrueDepth front camera system, Dual rear cameras: 12MP wide with f/1.6 aperture and 12MP ultra-wide with f/2.4 aperture, Ceramic Shield front glass, aluminum frame and glass back, MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W, comes with Lightning to USB-C cable

Last year’s iPhone 11 was a success and they saw higher-than-expected demand for the iPhone SE. I think that those two things contributed to these two new iPhones: the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini.

What’s in the iPhone 12?

Unlike last year’s iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 now has the same Super Retina XDR Display as the Pro models! The A14 Bionic chip is Apple’s latest so expect that to be faster than last year’s A13. It also ditches the curved front and back glass for a flat design. It keeps a dual rear camera setup but now has a faster f/1.6 aperture on the main sensor. Another nice change is the addition of Night Mode and Deep Fusion on the rear ultrawide and front cameras! You can also do HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps!

Glad That We Get a Mini!

I’m also happy that the iPhone 12 mini basically has everything that the standard model offers in a smaller form factor. That includes a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR Display and comes in 5 colors: Black, White, (PRODUCT)RED, Green, and Blue.

Who is the iPhone 12 for? The iPhone 12 is the new default iPhone for most people. If you’re looking for the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer without spending way too much, then this is for you. Also, get this iPhone if you are already concerned with the 12 mini’s battery life.

Who is the iPhone 12 mini for? If you’re someone who wants a small phone with all the latest bells and whistles, then the iPhone 12 mini is for you. You probably value the small size more, so you know not to expect insane levels of battery life.

iPhone 12 Pro / iPhone 12 Pro Max

Price:
iPhone 12 Pro – $999 / P62,990 (128GB), $1099 / P68,990 (256GB), $1299 / P80,990 (512GB)
iPhone 12 Pro Max – $1099 / P68,990 (128GB), $1199 / P74,990 (256GB), $1399 / P86,990 (512GB)
Available Colors: Silver, Graphite, Gold, Pacific Blue

Notable Specs: A14 Bionic chip, 6GB RAM, 6.1-inch (11 Pro) / 6.7-inch (11 Pro Max) Super Retina XDR Display, 12MP TrueDepth front camera system, Triple rear cameras: 12MP wide with f/1.6 aperture (and a 47% bigger sensor on the 12 Pro Max), 12MP telephoto with f/2.0 aperture, 52mm focal length & 2x optical zoom (12 Pro) / f/2.2 aperture, 65mm focal length & 2.5x optical zoom, and 12MP ultra-wide with f/2.4 aperture, Ceramic Shield front glass, stainless steel frame and textured glass back, MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W, comes with Lightning to USB-C cable

Unlike last year’s Pro models, there are even fewer differences between these and the standard iPhone 12. All that these phones have are the stainless steel frame, better Dolby Vision recording at up to 60 fps, having a LiDAR scanner, and a rear telephoto camera. Also unlike last year, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max carry different wide and telephoto rear cameras!

What Are Those Differences Exactly?

On the iPhone 12 Pro, you get the same 12MP wide camera with f/1.6 aperture and 7-element lens as the iPhone 12 and 12 mini. You also get the same 12MP telephoto camera with f/2.0 aperture, 52mm focal length, and 2x optical zoom. All of that is greatly upgraded on the 12 Pro Max! The wide camera gets a 47% larger sensor + sensor-shift stabilization. Besides that, the telephoto camera goes back to an f/2.2 aperture but now has a 65mm focal length and 2.5x optical zoom.

Who are these for? If you need more storage for your iPhone or you’re serious about photography, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are for you. To get the best that Apple has to offer in terms of the cameras, you should go for the Pro Max.

  1. But is the new iOS update now safe though?

    • Of course it is. Haha. I’d rather update and wait for another screwup than get screwed due to the older version.

  2. :/ IPhone X is the best.. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I can’t afford it.. hahahaaaa.. hay nako . ๐Ÿ™

I enjoyed reading on the specs and reviews on each line up iphones. Good to know about this. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Rea Rea

Cheap phones get good and good phones get cheap. I agree!! Thats what I realized when I was scouring the web for phone comparisons. Still, iPhone is not within my price range budget. This is really a great guide Jullian! I also get confused with all the new releases.

    • Donโ€™t worry Rea! This is just the first of many phone guides so watch out for then!

  4. I actually sent this link to a friend when he asked me about which iphone he is gonna buy. I told him, “Kani nga link oh, kay kung iPhone istoryaan kani may kasaligan hahah. #TeamAndroid man ko”.. He just laughed. So he bought the iPhone 6s kay mao ray naa sa range sa budget. I guess he bought one last monday? wala na nako gi track. hahah. This is very useful guide ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Herbert Herbert

I love how the iPhone X looks but I dont know if I would gamble to get one, too expensive ๐Ÿ™

  6. I enjoyed reading this! Not because I’m looking to get a new iPhone, but because it’s my first time to actually see a side by side comparison of all iPhones LOL. You know na me. Never been interested with these kind of stuff. Haha!

I would still go for SE if I ever replace my ‘ancient’ 5C in the future because I prefer smaller phones. I don’t really care about all the other features so I guess SE will work fine with me.

  7. I want to have an iPhoneX but yeah I can’t afford man. So ok ra ko sa iPhone 7.. Haha pero hopefully i can win that iphoneX kay can’t afford the phone..For now, I can stay and stick with my asus zenfone 3 zoom.
