I usually keep politics out of this blog. We can’t help but avoid it at times though. Trump just became the President of the United States over a week ago and he has done a lot of messed up things already. The latest in which is this executive order which blocks people born from 7 Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) to enter the US for 90 days.
You might be wondering: “How does this affect the tech industry?”
Well, the tech industry is currently solving problems with regards to diversity. The last thing we want is a government-sanctioned action that prohibits such action. Despite this being an insane act as it is, t’s weird to me that tech companies differ in this aspect. CEOs like Tim Cook of Apple and Reed Hastings of Netflix voiced out their opposition towards this. Some companies just offered a neutral response and only cared about the affected employees. Some just offered money as compensation for those affected! Even though they may share sympathy to the people, their statements reflect their core values. I’ll just leave it at that.
